Jerry Coelho - Guitarist

Jerry's dad bought his first guitar the summer of his 8th grade year. He received private lessons from Rex Gallion in Arroyo Grande for about 8 years. He went on to attend Cal Poly in 1971 and launched his first enormous studio with a whole 8 students and also started teaching students privately in their homes in San Luis Obispo, the 5 cities and Santa Maria.

After establishing his studio in Santa Maria, he went to Hollywood and began to study under virtuoso musician, Howard M. Roberts. Howard was responsible for over 2000 recordings and was best known for the theme from Shaft, Bonanza, Addams Family...and every beach movie in the world! After studying with Howard for about a year, a group of 10 players, including Jerry, who were also taking lessons from Howard, decided to create a learing center where they could congregate weekly - thus the establishment of the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT), currently known as The Musicians' Institute.
