Daoud Abubakar Balewa - Saxophonist/Flautist
Quietly and without all of the usual hype and the abundance of press and promotion associated with emerging artists, saxophonist/flautist and percussionist, Daoud is making his musical presence known and felt in the musical recording industry. He is the energy and visionary directional force catapulting and projecting the neo-acoustic fusion ensemble, Ambience II Fusion, into national public awareness.
Since 1978, Daoud and Ambience/Ambience II Fusion have recorded, produced and distributed 7 L.P.'s & audio cassettes, 2 singles, 1 commercial broadcast television video, co-wrote and co-produced 2 film scores (1 for CBS - T.V.- USA, "The CBS T.V. Children's Theatre Mystery Special"). He has performed and recorded with Gary Bartz, Syreeta Wright, Hiroshima, Olatunji, Robin Kenyatta and has been reviewed in Cadence, Jazz-Times, Jazziz, Musician, Downbeat, Goldmine, Africa Music International, Black Radio Exclusive Magazines, garnering National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Grammy nominations eligibility for "Best New Artist" in 1983, 1985 and 1986.
