Carolyn Smith - Pianist and Vocalist
Carolyn began studying piano at age 7. She also recieved formal vocal training throughout high school and college. She received a BS from Illinois State University, an MS from Central Connecticut State University and Special Education training from California Polytechnic University. Carolyn went on to be a classroom music teacher in Illinois.
In Connecticut, Carolyn was a founding member of Southington Festival Community Choir and co-founder and pianist for Southington Youth Chorale. She was the Musical Director for Plantsville Congregational Church. She was the Chorale Director for a high school music program as well as a Fine Arts instructor which included classroom music, choir, band, classroom art, handwriting and drama.
In California, Carolyn is a past president of the Central Coast Chamber Music Society (now inoperative), is a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and founded and directed the Santa Maria Youth Theatre from 1986 until it closed in 2006.
Carolyn spent 4 years accompanying Righetti High School choirs, was a substitute teacher and spent 4 years as a Special Education teacher. She has been the Choral Director at Orcutt Presbyterian Church since 1986 and the Bell Choir Director at Orcutt Presbyterian Church for 4 years. Carolyn has been a vocal coach and piano instructor at Coelho Academy of Music since 1999.
